Here are some photos of tent 1 in the wonderful open area found on the third floor of the drawing department. Gothic windows meets the dome, silver and blue plastics meet fluro lights. (The tent is fully reversible)

I've been making some tent structures, based on a two person dome tent. The fabric is a mixture of plastics and felts and while it's slow, somewhat tedious work , I'm almost there.
The hope is that I will make two tents, one mainly made from plastics, the other mainly made from felts.

FLUX- First Site Gallery RMIT

I had a show last year at First Site Gallery called Flux. It was an installation made from a series of large scale layered photographs/photocopies printed onto trace. The images were made from photographing paper sculptures and cutting away the background to reveal a central image that looked both strangely organic yet entirely manufactured.

I love paper! Wonderful drawing shows around the city of Melbourne.

There is a host of great drawing shows on at the moment, many of them linked to the RMIT Drawing Out Conference held last week. My personal favourites are Contemporary Australian Drawing 1 held at RMIT Gallery and a lovely smaller show at RMIT Project Space. To see such strong shows with the act of drawing at the core, makes me grin with delight. Yay, drawing rocks!

I am starting to play around with templates again, this time using some of the shapes found in commercially produced dome tents. (I want to make my own tent.) These are some of the templates I created from suspended carpets.

Crystals, Minerals and Gems

I enjoy drawing the intricate facets found in gem stones and crystals and have developed an ongoing series of work based on my observations. These images are a mixture of water colour, digital images, pencil and charcoal on paper.

I've been accepted into the Women's Salon show at the Counihan Gallery in Brunswick, which is amusing. I showed in the International Women's Day Exhibition held at the Mechanic's Institute in Brunswick close to twenty years ago! The difference is that the current show is curated and the latter was open house.

The drawings represent maps of a journey I took as a teenager during the winter months, on my way to school. I would pass a power station and cooling pondage and in winter, fogs would rise from the warm water to create a world both comforting and mysterious.
I was drawn to fog-wateriness, the danger of invisibility, the mystery of opacity, the cause and effect predictability of science and the teenage desire to move through the fog and fade from view.
